Transforming Trauma

From Trauma to Thriving

Therapeutic yoga is a complementary healing modality that addresses the physical, emotional, mental, energetic, and spiritual realms of the human experience. Trauma Informed Yoga Therapy introduces holistic yoga techniques and practices that promote self-awareness, embodiment, self-regulation, resiliency, and safety, in a way that allows practitioners to easily implement these practices into integrative and  holistic health programs.
These practices include, but are not limited to: 8-limb yoga practices, including restorative and therapeutic physical postures, ayurvedic lifestyle habits, breathing exercises, mindful meditation, focus techniques, somatic expressive movement, and art.
Students will learn what trauma-informed/trauma-sensitive yoga is and why this matters when working with specific populations in group or one-on-one sessions and classes. Key concepts from the philosophy of classic yoga texts and sources will be introduced, as well as practical techniques that are effective toward creating homeostasis across many systems of the body.   Students will gain a deep understanding and working knowledge of anatomy, physiology and current research of the brain, nervous system, enteric nervous system, vagus innervation, as well as practices that enhance and invigorate the gut, heart, and brain connection.
We will address common mental, emotional, energetic and biological imbalances such as: anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, PTSD, insomnia, addiction, and lifestyle and cultural stress. Students in this course will learn common diagnoses, medications, and typical treatments from the current medical and mental health systems.
Practitioners will gain not only practical knowledge of these extensive practices but also a deeper understanding and mastery of the creation and maintenance of a yogic therapeutic alliance, based on equanimity and celebration of each of us as sacred beings.
